The Amadablam Mini Hydro Project (911 kW), built at an altitude of over 4,400 meters in the Everest region, is the highest-altitude mini hydropower plant in the world. Developed by Amadablam Mini Hydro Pvt. Ltd., this run-of-river project harnesses the waters of Cholunche Khola (Nare Khola) to provide clean, reliable electricity to 451 households across 19 villages, including Chukhung, Dingboche, Pangboche, Tengboche, and more. The project is a landmark initiative under the MGEAP program, supported by the Government of Nepal, the World Bank, and the Ministry of Forest and Environment, ensuring strict compliance with environmental safeguards in the Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site

By delivering sustainable energy to remote Sherpa communities, hotels, and restaurants, the project is transforming daily life while also strengthening tourism, livelihoods, and cultural preservation in the Khumbu region. More than just power, the Amadablam Mini Hydro Project represents hope and progress, creating a brighter, cleaner, and more sustainable future for the Everest region and its people.
