Traditionally famous for its wheat and potato farming, Dingboche has transformed over time into a bustling village with large hotels catering to trekkers and climbers. The Amadablam Mini Hydro Project is proud for benefiting 86 household both the local community and the growing tourism industry.

Machhermo

Machermo is a small yet significant village located in the Khumbu region of eastern Nepal. Situated at an altitude of 4,470 meters, it lies in the Dudh Kosi River valley—just north of Dole and south of Gokyo—immediately below the terminal moraine of the Ngozumpa Glacier, the longest glacier in the Himalayas.
Machermo serves as a popular acclimatization and resting point for trekkers en route to Mount Everest via the scenic Gokyo Ri trail. The village primarily caters to the tourism industry, featuring a modest cluster of around 13 houses, most of which operate as guesthouses and lodges for visitors.
The area also benefits from the Amadablam Hydropower Project, which plays a vital role in providing sustainable energy to support local livelihoods and tourism infrastructure.
Luza

Nestled between Dole to the south and Machhermo to the north, Luza is a scenic high-altitude village at 4,330 meters. It offers a breathtaking viewpoint of more than seven snow-capped peaks rising above 6,000 meters, making it an ideal location for a peaceful tea break during the Gokyo Valley trek.
Historically, Luza was known for its active animal husbandry, especially during the Yarchang festival, when local communities would bring their livestock up from lower altitudes to graze in the summer pastures. This seasonal migration was also a time of gathering and celebration.
Luza maintains its traditional charm, with 3 operating lodges that serve trekkers, while the remaining houses are primarily used for cow keeping during the summer months. The Amadablam Hydropower Project has brought reliable electricity to this remote settlement, significantly benefiting the three lodges and supporting the local economy.
Dole

Dole is a small yet captivating village located at an altitude of 4,038 meters in Nepal’s Khumbu region. Traditionally used as a seasonal grazing site for yaks, Dole has evolved into a popular acclimatization stop for trekkers on their way to Gokyo Lake
The village hosts several lodges and guesthouses, offering rest and hospitality to travelers amidst breathtaking mountain views and the warm culture of the Sherpa community.
The Amadablam Mini Hydropower Project is proud to support Dole by providing reliable, clean energy to 14 households and lodges
Phortse

Phortse is a charming and culturally rich village located at an elevation of 3,840 meters in the Khumbu region of Nepal. Unlike many settlements along the main trekking routes, Phortse lies slightly off the beaten path. The village offers a scenic high-altitude trail connection to Pangboche, providing stunning views across the valley—an excellent alternative to the standard Tengboche route for trekkers seeking a quieter, more authentic experience.

Phungi Thenga

Phungi Thenga is a peaceful village located in the Everest region of Nepal, along the well-traveled trekking route between Namche Bazaar and Tengboche. Nestled at the base of a lush valley beside the Dudh Koshi River, the area is renowned for its beautiful rhododendron forests and as a natural habitat for the Himalayan Griffon vulture, adding to its ecological and scenic significance.

Tengboche

Tengboche is a culturally and spiritually significant village located in the Khumbu Pasanglhamu Rural Municipality of Koshi Province, Nepal, at an elevation of 3,867 meters. It is best known as the home of the historic Tengboche Monastery, the largest Buddhist gompa in the Khumbu region, originally established in 1923.
Located within Sagarmatha National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Tengboche is an important spiritual and cultural center for the local Sherpa community and a revered stop for trekkers heading toward Everest Base Camp. The village also offers breathtaking views of Himalayan peaks including Ama Dablam, Everest, and Lhotse.

Debuche

Debuche is a tranquil and culturally rich village located between Tengboche and Pangboche in the Khumbu region. Nestled amidst dense rhododendron forests and accompanied by the soothing sounds of chirping birds, Debuche stands out as a serene and spiritually significant landmark.
The village is best known for the Debuche Nunnery, one of the few Buddhist monasteries in the region dedicated to female monks (nuns). This sacred site holds deep cultural and religious importance for the Sherpa community and visitors alike.

Shomare is a small, tranquil village located at an elevation of 4,038 meters in the Khumbu region of Nepal. Surrounded by majestic mountain landscapes, it serves as a popular lunch stop for trekkers heading toward Dingboche and higher Himalayan destinations.
The Amadablam Mini Hydropower Project proudly supports 19 households in Shomare with access to clean and reliable electricity, contributing to improved living standards and sustainable local development in this high-altitude settlement.
Pheriche

Pheriche is a beautiful highland village situated at an elevation of 4,371 meters above sea level. Once primarily a farming community growing potatoes and buckwheat and raising yaks, the village has evolved with tourism—many locals now work as guides and yak drivers during the trekking season. Pheriche is also an important acclimatization stop for trekkers and climbers on their way to Mt. Everest Base Camp. Amadablam Mini Hydro Project is proud to support 35 households for enhancing the quality of life for both residents and visitors.

Thukla is a small beautiful village located along the trail to Lobuche, often serving as a lunch stop for trekkers heading towards Everest Base Camp. Thukla hosts 2 large lodges that cater to visitors in the region. The Amadablam Mini Hydro Project is proud to support this area.
Laboche

Lobuche is a small yet stunning village nestled in the high Himalayas, located near the second final stretch of the trek to Everest Base Camp. It serves as a key overnight stop for trekkers and climbers preparing to reach the base of the world’s highest peak. Lobuche plays an important role in the region’s trekking route. The Amadablam Mini Hydro Project will benefit 6 houses in this village, bringing much-needed clean and sustainable electricity to support both the local community and the growing needs of high-altitude tourism.
Chukung

Chhukung is a small beautiful village situated at an elevation of 5,546 meters above sea level. Surrounded by majestic peaks, it serves as a popular stop for trekkers and climbers heading toward Island Peak and other high-altitude adventures. The Amadablam Mini Hydro Project is proud to benefit 12 households in Chhukung, providing clean and reliable electricity that will improve living conditions and help strengthen local tourism services.
Lawishysa
Lawishysa is a small and beautiful village located between Phugi Thenga and Sanasa. It is a popular stop for tea and snacks among trekkers on their return journey. The Amadablam Mini Hydro Project benefits 12 houses in this village.
Tashinga
About three decades ago, Tashinga was a popular winter destination for the people of Khunde and Khumjung. This beautiful lowland area in the Khumbu region is known for its favorable climate, where many vegetables are grown. Today, 12 houses in Tashinga benefit from the Amadablam Mini Hydro Project.
Mingbo
Mingbo, also known as Amadablam Base Camp, is a beautiful place situated at an elevation of 4,530 meters from sea level. For climbers aiming to summit Amadablam, it serves as the gateway. 3 houses in Mingbo will be benefitted from the Amadablam Mini Hydro Limited project.

FAQ: Amadablam Mini Hydro Limited
The Amadablam Mini Hydro Subproject is a 911 kW hydroelectric initiative under the Mini Grid Energy Access Project (MGEAP). It aims to provide clean, renewable energy to remote Himalayan communities in Nepal.
The hydro project harnesses water from the Cholunche Khola (Nare Khola), a tributary of the Dudhkoshi River.
The project will generate 911 kilowatts (kW) of clean, renewable electricity.
The electricity produced will benefit 451 households in 20 remote villages, including Chukhung, Debuche, Dingboche, Pangboche, and Tyangboche.
The primary beneficiaries include indigenous communities in these villages, who will gain reliable access to electricity for the first time.
